North and East Syria administration issues new instructions to help curb coronavirus pandemic

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA – The regions of North and East Syria are expected to face a new wave of coronavirus infections as new variants spread among the population. To help mitigate the spread of the virus, the Health Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) issued new instructions and restrictions, including fines for not wearing masks in public.

Health checkpoints are to be established at the entrance to any DAA institution and testing capabilities will be increased at the main health centers in the region.

As for the conditions of the border crossings, the DAA authorities will require arrivals to undergo a COVID-19 test unless they have documents showing they have been vaccinated or have had a negative test result within 72 hours of their crossing.

Regarding any potential coronavirus curfew, the Health Authority indicated that any curfew will be announced in advance and be proportionate to the scale of infections and the extent of society’s observance of precautionary measures.
