Syriac Cross Organization holds first Windows-workshop to strengthen community life in Gozarto (Jazira) Region of North and East Syria
HASAKAH, Syria – The Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development held the first session of its new ‘Windows’-workshops. The first workshop was held in Hasakah city and 18 participants of various components of the Gozarto (Jazira) Region in North and East Syria participated.
The series of workshops are held within the context of structural development projects aimed at strengthening community sense and cohesion between the different components in northeastern Syria.
North and East Syria is majority Arab with a substantial Kurdish presence and smaller Syriac, Armenian, and Yezidi communities.
This first workshop in Hasakah included dialogue sessions on community themes and changing social and religious prejudices under the supervision of three facilitators. Topics were concepts of social cohesion, community life, overcoming tensions under economic difficulties, countering demographic change and religious extremism, strengthening democratic powers, and setting the conditions and objectives for achieving these.
