North and East Syria: Women’s Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration opens childcare center in Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria – The Women’s Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East, on Thursday, opened a childcare center in the city of Hasakah. A delegation from the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU), including Co-Chair of the DAA Executive Council Nazira Goreya (Syriac Union Party) and deputy in the DAA Women’s Authority Sabah Shabo.
In an interview with Syriac satellite channel Suroyo TV, Sabah Shabo stated that, “one of the DAA Women’s Authority’s principles is caring for women’s issues and confronting the difficulties they face. This of course includes taking care of children, since children are more linked to women. The Authority establishes childhood projects such as such as nurseries, kindergartens, and centers for children with special needs. This project was carried out also because of the conditions we are suffering from in this period, such as displacement and war.”
“We were supported by humanitarian organizations, after they visited the childcare center in Rmelan, our first project for children by the DAA Women’s Authority,” Shabo added.
She added that the Women’s Authority established this childcare center to protect children who lost their parents and to provide them with all necessary protection, attention, health, and education. Shabo thanked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for providing basic assistance and services, as well as the Kurdish Crescent for providing everything they could within their means.
“We hope that conscious children from this center will graduate to become active and engaged young people in the community in the future,” she concluded.
