Spokesperson for Syrian Democratic Forces Aram Hanna calls for establishment of international court to try ISIS detainees in North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — Spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of North and East Syria Aram Hanna called on the international community and all parties involved in ending the Syrian crisis to be serious about the dossier of detainees of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Hanna called for the establishment of an international court to prosecute ISIS members detained in North and East Syria, where they committed their crimes and where evidence that condemns them is available.

“It is our right to hold accountable those terrorists who wreaked havoc on our land and threatened our people,” Hanna stated.

Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department Abeer Elia previously stated that the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) has been calling on the international community and European countries to establish an international court by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to try ISIS members.

The ISIS detainees pose a significant risk to the region and must be dealt with quickly.

The DAA does not have the right to try any ISIS detainee who does not hold the Syrian citizenship, and this constitutes a burden and destabilizes the region.
