Self-Defense Office of North and East Syria issues military conscription exemption for those born between 1990 and 1997

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On 4 September 2021, the Self-Defense Office of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria issued Resolution No. 3 in which it exempted those born between 1990 and 1997 from conscripted military service.

People born in or between the aforementioned years will be exempted from military service effective immediately. The resolution also declared that no one below the age of 18 years of age may join the military forces.

The resolution does not apply to those who are already conscripted into military service and those who have voluntarily served in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces (ISF).
