DIMANE, Lebanon — Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Béchara Boutros al-Raï received a delegation of the families of the martyrs of the Beirut port explosion, accompanied by several priests, at the Patriarchate headquarters in Dimane.
During the meeting, the Patriarch was briefed on the future plans that has been developed to assist the victims of the explosion legally, socially, and politically.
Patriarch al-Raï reiterated his demand for justice and the uncovering of the truth of the explosion by the judiciary and stressed the need to support the families of the victims, to rebuild what has been destroyed, to remain faithful to the country of Lebanon, and to oppose all attempts to change the identity of the country.
The Patriarch also received Russian Orthodox Archbishop Niphon Seikaly. They discussed the general situation in Lebanon and ecumenical relations.
Patriarch al-Raï also met with Father Charbel Mhanna al-Marimi — who serves the Syriac Maronite community in Qatar — and Bishop Joseph Nafaa — Patriarchal visitor to the Arabian Gulf. The Patriarch was briefed on the ministry of the Syriac Maronite Mission and the construction of the Church of St Charbel in Qatar.
A delegation from the Preparatory Committee for the Eastern Christian Heritage Day to be held in Rome also visited Dimane to meet with the Patriarch. During the meeting, which was also attended by the Lebanese Ambassador to the Vatican Farid al-Khazen, Mor Béchara Boutros al-Raï was briefed on the committee’s preparations.
