BAGHDAD — Iraqi President Barham Salih received a delegation of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian women at the presidential palace in Baghdad on Thursday.
During the meeting, Salih stressed that the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people are an integral part of the Iraqi social and historic fabric and that they are an authentic component of the country.
More must be done to assist Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians who were displaced by the Islamic State (ISIS) return to their homes and ensure they can prosper economically, culturally, and politically, he said.
Salih explained that the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, like all people in Iraq, have suffered from the string of challenges and difficulties that have befallen the country and have proven their steadfastness in the face of the worse kinds of terrorism.
Salih added that Iraqi women have especially suffered and said greater support should be provided to women to strengthen their role in public life and ensure their rights.
