LEBANON: Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Boutros al-Raï receives delegation from the National Liberal Party to discuss formation of unified political front

BKERKE, Lebanon — Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Boutros al-Raï met with a delegation from the National Liberal Party to discuss the launch of a sovereign front consisting of several political parties aimed at working towards achieving a policy of “active neutrality” and preserving the sovereignty of Lebanon.

Patriarch al-Raï received NLP President Camille Chamoun, former NLP President Dory Chamoun, and NLP Vice President Robert Khoury at the Patriarchate headquarters in Bkerke.

During the meeting, the Patriarch was briefed on the details of the unity project which is based on an attempt to unite the opposition into one voice.

The meeting also addressed the need to hold accountable the corrupt system that continues to protect those who illegally housed dangerous chemicals inside Beirut port that led to the explosion that killed hundreds and injured thousands.

The Patriarch also met with the head of the Teachers Union, Rudolf Abboud, and reviewed with him the educational reality and the demands of teachers in Lebanon. Following the meeting, Patriarch al-Raï chaired an extensive meeting of Catholic schools that included Bishops and officials to discuss educational affairs.
