Young Women’s Authority of North and East Syria organizes awareness campaigns in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) to stop child marriage

DAYRO ZCURO, Syria — The Young Women’s Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria in the city of Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) continues to combat the phenomenon of child marriage through awareness campaigns and intellectual lectures.

Young Women’s Authority official in Dayro Zcuro Suha Abdel Aziz al-Saeed stated that the sharp escalation of violence against women is the result of a persistent authoritarian patriarchal mentality which believes women are property.

Al-Saeed pointed out that the Young Women’s Authority has launched a series of awareness campaigns to end child marriage, which has negative repercussions for minors and society. She also indicated that this phenomenon is still widespread in North and East Syria in general and Dayro Zcuro in particular.

She also said that the Authority organized training courses and awareness lectures with the aim of educating women and increasing their public role in society. Women are the basic building block for any society, she added.

The Young Women’s Authority, in coordination with the Youth and Sports and Women’s Committees, distributed awareness brochures to the people in Al-Sa’wa, Al-Kasra, and Muhaimidah in Dayro Zcuro. Awareness brochures are due to be distributed next week in Hajin, Gharanij, and Abu Hamam.
