Syriac community of Dayrik in North and East Syria commemorates martyrs of Bethnahrin National Council
DAYRIK, Syria — On 10 October, the day on which Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) commemorates its martyrs, the Foundation of Martyrs Families in Dayrik (Al-Malikiyah) held an event attended by the families of martyrs and members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community at the city’s Cemetery of Martyrs.
The commemoratory event included a minute of silence for the souls of martyrs and several speeches, including one by Ellen Korkis on behalf of the Syriac Union Party in which she stressed the greatness of the concept of martyrdom and the sacrifices made by Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) martyrs in the fight to preserve the homeland and defend it against terrorism.
A documentary was presented about the lives of 62 martyrs of the MUB and candles were lit and placed at the graves of martyrs.
