AL-HOL, Syria — Special Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the support of the U.S.-led International Coalition, carried out a security operation in the eastern countryside of Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) on 8 October which resulted in the arrest of a wanted terrorist involved in financing and transporting arms for the Islamic State (ISIS). The arrested was also reportedly involved in the transportation of explosive material and planning attacks against military and security points.
The following day, the units also carried out a security operation in the town of Sha’fa, also in the eastern countryside of Dayro Zcuro, targeting an ISIS cell. Four suspected cell members were arrested in the operation, including the cell’s suspected leader. During the raid, the SDF recovered weapons, military and technical equipment, and documents.
In related news, on 12 October, an ISIS official responsible for transferring funds to the families of ISIS members in Al-Hol Refugee Camp was arrested on the outskirts of Al-Hol. At the time of his arrest, the official was in possession of documents and military equipment.
