NETHERLANDS: Syriac Patriarch Ignatius Joseph III Younan ordains 17 new deacons

ARNHEM, Netherlands – Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Joseph III Younan celebrated the holy mass at the Saint John the Apostle Syriac Catholic Church in Arnhem, the Netherlands. During the holy mass, the Patriarch ordained 17 deacons to serve various smaller Syriac congregations spread over the Netherlands.

Mass was attended by secretary-general of the Patriarchate Habib Murad, priest Saadi Khader of the Parish of St John the Apostle, and Father Riad Behnam who serves the scattered congregations in the state of Nord Rhein Westphalia in Germany.

In his sermon, Patriarch Younan, speaking in Dutch, addressed the young people who attended as well as the newly appointed deacons: “You are ordained in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ as deacons. We must cherish our Syriac roots and our Syriac language spoken by the Lord, his mother Mary, and the apostles.”

At the end of the event, the believers congratulated the deacons and received the pastoral blessing from Mor Ignatius III Younan.
