ISIS terrorist who tried to blow up places of worship in Akkar arrested in Lebanon

AKKAR, Lebanon – The Lebanese security forces arrested an Islamic State terrorist who tried to bomb a religious center in the Lebanese city of Akkar. The General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces announced the following in a statement on Tuesday: 

“In the framework of implementing the preventive security plan followed by the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces in terms of following up on persons suspected of belonging to terrorist organizations, and as a result of monitoring and follow-up operations, units were able to identify and arrest a Lebanese citizen affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS in the city of Akkar.”

In the course of his interrogation, the man admitted that he embraced the ideology of the terrorist organization Islamic State, and then began collecting materials to manufacture explosive devices, which were seized in a warehouse near his home, according to the statement.

The directorate confirmed that the man they arrested was in contact with a Syrian individual who resides outside Lebanon and is also affiliated with the Islamic State terror organization, and that he intended to target a religious center in Akkar using a motorcycle.
