Assad receives UAE Foreign Minister, U.S. State Department against normalization with Syrian regime

DARAMSUQ — On 9 November, an Emirati delegation headed by UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed visited Daramsuq (Damascus). The delegation also included Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security Ali Mohammad Hammad Al Shamsi. The delegation was received by head of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad in his palace.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed. The intensification of efforts for this cooperation, especially in vital sectors to strengthen investment partnerships, were also touched on.

In related news, the U.S. Department of State issued a statement regarding the visit, saying that the U.S. was not surprised by the visit, but it does not support such efforts to normalize with the Syrian regime.

The U.S. statement stressed that the U.S. will neither normalize with the Syrian regime, nor change its stance about it. Furthermore, it will not lift sanctions against it.
