Lebanon: Council of Catholic Patriarchs convened for its fifty-fourth session

BETH KERKE (BKERKE) – The Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon held its 54th annual session at the Syriac Maronite Patriarchal residence in Bkerke from the eighth to the thirteenth of November.

The meeting was attended by Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Béchara Boutros Raï, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Syriac Melkite Patriarch Mor Youssef Absi, and Armenian Catholicos of Cilicia Patriarch Raphael Bedros XXI Minassian.

Papal Ambassador Bishop Joseph Spiteri, and Monsignor Giuseppe Franconi, Chargé d’Affairs of the Papal Embassy in Lebanon also participated in the opening session.

The multi-day sessions, hosted by the Syriac Maronite Church, were used to deepen the ecclesiastical vision in dialogue sessions.

In its final statement, the Council affirmed its support for the national initiative launched by Mor Béchara Boutros Raï aimed at saving Lebanon through active neutrality and holding a conference under UN auspices.
