General Commander of Syrian Democratic Forces Abdi calls on international community to pressure Turkey for a ceasefire
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In an interview with Meghan Bodette for the National Interest, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of North and East Syria Mazloum Abdi stated that the U.S. could push Turkey to return to negotiations and called on U.S. President Joe Biden to mediate a peace process between its two allies.
Abdi stressed a shift toward a pro-peace policy with senior U.S. leaders, noting that he had told this to President Trump as well.
“I told Trump that only the U.S. can solve this problem, and it should participate in the peace process.” Abdi added that he will make the same recommendation to the Biden Administration.
In May 2020, Abdi stressed to Al-Monitor the need to start a negotiation process with Moscow, Damascus, and Ankara.
Two months before the Turkish military operation in North and East Syria in October 2019, the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) announced its adherence to dialogue to reach a solution with Turkey.
