Men’s education seminar about violence against women held in Tel Tamr, North and East Syria

TEL TAMR, Syria — The Hasakah Canton Council, in coordination with Kongreya Star, held an educational seminar for men at the Martyrs’ Families Foundation in Tel Tamr in the Khabur River Valley in North and East Syria.

The seminar highlighted the history of violence targeting women, the historical context of women’s rights, and progress towards equality.

Discussions during the seminar covered the prominent role of women in the revolution in North and East Syria which acts as an example of empowerment and egalitarianism.

Our correspondent held a meeting with jurist,  lecturer, and member of the Hasakah Canton Council Khaled Jabr who said that, “These awareness lectures today target the male mentality in its general form and authoritarian thought within societies, these diseases that our societies have been experiencing for decades, so today we are trying through education to get rid of these diseases that affect societies and are directly responsible for violating the rights of women.”

“Women in this region have proven themselves equal to men in all fields, whether in the military, political, economic or social fields,” Jabr continued. ”Women’s rights must be preserved in the minds of men. They should stay away from the male and authoritarian mentality and get rid of these common diseases that have afflicted society.”

“That is why it requires all of us to be educated in this way and to publicize women’s rights in all fields.”
