Administration of North and East Syria hands over two girls to Swiss Foreign Ministry for extradition
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria has transferred custody of two girls related to Islamic State (ISIS) prisoners to the Swiss Foreign Ministry as part of a project to repatriate the children of ISIS families to their countries of origin.
The DAA published a report of the visit of a delegation from the Swiss Foreign Ministry to receive two children of ISIS who hold Swiss nationality on its official website.
The delegation consisted of Stephanie Periart — Head of Consular Protection of the Swiss Foreign Ministry and Antoine Laham — Representative of the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
“The DAA has appealed to the international community since the liberation of Baguz to take responsibility for its citizens, and noted the dangers for children and women remaining in terrorist settings,” said Fener al-Keit, Deputy Co-Chair of the DAA’s Foreign Relations Commission.
“Some countries have responded, but this issue is thorny and dangerous and needs international cooperation to avoid ISIS organizing its ranks and creating a new generation of terrorists as well,” he said.
At the end of the visit, the Swiss delegation received the two children in accordance with an official extradition document signed by both parties.
