Upwards of 10 injure after teenager attempts to blow self up at Orthodox school in Serpukhov, Russia

SERPUKHOV, Russia — An 18-year-old graduate of a Russian Orthodox school tried to blow himself on Monday, according to the Russian Interior Ministry. The school is located next to a convent in the city of Serpukhov, 100 km south of Moscow.

The teenager’s motives are not yet known. He was seriously injured in the explosion and transferred to an intensive care unit.

According to an investigation committee, the graduate wanted to commit suicide by blowing himself up.

“Ten students were injured, nine of whom were taken to hospital, but none of the injuries are serious,” said the regional commissioner for children’s rights Ksenia Michonova.

According to TASS news agency, quoting police sources, the bomber planned to detonate an explosive device during morning prayers at the school, but it detonated at the entrance.
