Administration of North and East Syria to hold elections during first quarter of 2022
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria has announced that it plans to hold elections in the first quarter of 2022.
In a statement to local media, Co-Chair of the DAA Executive Council Abdul Hamid al-Mahbash declared that preparations for the elections are underway.
The elections require a comprehensive census of the population in the region and the establishment of an Electoral Commission to oversee the process, said Al-Mahbash.
“The Social Contract draft is ready,” he added, indicating that after amendment, no fundamental changes have taken place.
Earlier, Co-Chair of the DAA General Council Farid Atti stated that the elections in North and East Syria will be held after completing the Social Contract draft.
Atti stressed that the new Social Contract will determine the DAA form and structure and will include the Executive and Legislative Council, the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Electoral Commission.
