PCR laboratory supplies secured, no black fungus infection registered in our areas, says Co-Chair of Health Authority in North and East Syria

ZALIN, Syria — In an exclusive statement to Suroyo TV, Co-Chair of the Health Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria Jwan Mustafa spoke about the central polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory in Zalin (Qamishli), and the services it has been providing for about a year and a half, as about 100,000 samples were tested.

Mustafa stated that, “since the beginning of last November, the laboratory run out of necessary supplies,” indicating it was difficult to secure the needed materials to conduct the COVID-19 tests.

Mustafa added that the DAA Health Authority made great efforts to finally secure the needed materials, which are mostly from outside North and East Syria and cover a fairly-long time.

“In the coming period, the laboratory will not run out of supplies, as more supplies are soon to arrive,” he added.

Regarding the outbreak of the Mucormycosis (black fungus) in North and East Syria, Mustafa confirmed that no infection has been recorded so far, and in the event of future infections, there will be immediate treatment and prevention from its spread.
