The U.S.-led International Coalition officially announced withdrawal of its last combat forces from Iraq

BAGHDAD In implementation of what was agreed upon between the U.S.-led International Coalition and the Iraqi government, the Coalition officially announced that it no longer had any combat forces in Iraq, since 9th December.

The Coalition added that its last combat forces withdrew before the agreed-upon timetable due to the tremendous progress made by the Iraqi Security Forces and the Peshmerga in developing their capabilities to fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).

The Coalition reiterated that its remaining forces and the U.S. forces will be primarily tasked with providing advice and assistance, as well as enabling the Iraqi Security Forces to maintain ISIS lasting defeat.

Baghdad and Washington, D.C. had concluded this agreement on 26th last July.
