The Syrian Democratic Forces of North and East Syria remove a minor from their ranks
HASAKAH, Syria — On 29th June, 2019, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of North and East Syria signed a joint action plan with the United Nations, with the approval of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria, to end and prevent the recruitment of the under eighteen children.
At the end of August 2019, the DAA announced establishing complaints offices related to minors joining the ranks of the military forces in the areas of North and East Syria.
In related news, Co-Chair of the Child Protection Office in Armed Conflicts in Al-Hasakah Khaled Jabr stated that they continue to remove children and minors who joined the military forces during recent and past periods.
“Based on UN resolutions and international laws, we remove children from military operations,” he added.
He indicated that they have removed the16-year-old Majid Khalil from the military forces, in cooperation with the SDF. He was delivered to his parents in al-Shahba area in the countryside of Holeb (Aleppo).
Jabr added that they have removed 216 children from the Al-Hasakah office, since the office was created about 14 months ago. The children removed from all offices located in North and East Syria reached 621.
The Child Protection Office keeps following up on the received complaints, and informs the military units.
