General Council of Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria creates Agriculture and Irrigation Authority

Raqqa – During its annual meeting, the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria decided to separate the Agriculture and Irrigation Authority from the Economy Authority.

Salman Barodo, co-chair of the Economics Authority, explained that the decision issued by the General Council aims to “reduce the broad tasks entrusted to the former Economics and Agriculture Authority.”

Several agricultural and industrial institutions and sectors are affiliated to the Economy and Agriculture Authority, “which are broad sectors that cannot be limited to one body,” according to Barodo.

Considering the importance of agriculture in the areas of northeastern Syria, “maximum importance must be given to this sector as it is directly related to the food security of the population,” according to Barodo.

Barodo added that the administration should take full advantage of existing agricultural resources and establish an economic sector that allows for optimal utilization of all the resources in the region.

The Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria consists of 11 bodies, each specializing in an administrative, economic or social sector, the most recently established of which is the Agriculture and Irrigation Authority.
