IRAQ: Steps to initiate the new Iraqi parliament formation
BAGHDAD— After the approval of the Supreme Court for Parliamentary Elections in Iraq on the recent election’s results, the government took its first steps to form the new Iraqi parliament. This was confirmed during the meeting between head of Al-Fatah Alliance Hadi al-Amiri and head of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr, on Wednesday.
Al-Amiri stated that the meeting was positive, responsible and based on the strong state’s interest and success in the next stage.
Al-Amri indicated that the talks will be completed to discuss guarantees of success in building the state.
Iraqi political sources reported that President of Iraq Barham Salih will sign on Thursday a decree to hold the 1st session of the new parliament. The decree will include two options for holding the 1st session, either on 9th or 10th January.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi Army continues to maintain the country’s security and stability. On Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced the arrest of 4 antiquities smugglers in Anbar Province, west of the country.
The Ministry stated that they found in their possession a 9mm pistol, an assault bomb, and a manuscript artifact.
