Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project: Bashar al-Assad second most corrupt president in world
DARAMSUQ — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad steals millions of dollars by exploiting his position, according to the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
The head of the Syrian regime was ranked as the second most corrupt president in the world after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Following al-Assad’s meeting with the Emirati Foreign Minister, the Biden Administration opposed the idea of normalizing relations with the Syrian regime.
Under al-Assad’s rule, Syria has topped rankings in corruption, unemployment, and poverty, as well as human rights violations and the restriction of freedoms.
