Co-Chair of Syrian Democratic Council Darrar: We have never wanted to be separated from Syria but rather to form a new Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Co-Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Riad Darrar clarified his expectations for the coming year, saying that,” East of the Euphrates will remain under the U.S. protection until further notice, but the situation will not change, whether the U.S. forces stayed or not.”
Darrar stated that the SDC had previously announced its unwillingness to attack Turkey, but the continued Turkish attacks keep undermining political progress in the region and complicating a settlement of the conflict.
According to Darrar, Russia will lose if it continues diving into the “Syrian mud”, and Turkey’s ties with Russia will lead to its collapse and Erdogan’s loss of internal and external control.
He added that the SDC has never wanted to be separated from Syria but rather to communicate with other opposition bodies to form a new Syria.
“The SDC will continue to reject the Syrian regime’s traditional humiliating conditions, because the goal of negotiation is to reach reform, not reconciliation, and negotiations will not be at the expense of the sacrifices of the Syrian people,” he asserted.
“The SDC is constantly exposed to propaganda campaigns that seek to distort its image, work, goals, and achievements by the Syrian regime, Iran, Turkey, and others,” Darrar elaborated, calling for empowering the SDC media and asserting that the SDC is not outside the Syrian national dialogue.
“The new year will bring good news for the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria, including increased international recognition of its legitimacy as the legitimate governing power of North and East Syria,” he concluded.
