Deputy US Special Envoy for Syria visits Foreign Relations Commission of North and East Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Ambassador Matt Borrell, Deputy US Special Envoy for Syria, visited the headquarters of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria in Zalin (Qamishli) to meet with officials and discuss the latest developments in the region.
Abeer Elia, Deputy Co-chair of the Foreign Relations Commission, told Suroyo TV that in the meeting with Amb. Borrell, they exchanged views on several political and economic issues of common interest including the threat of terrorism, the situation in detention centers and Al-Hol and Roj camps, and the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities and repatriate its citizens being detained in North and East Syria.
Elia told Suroyo TV that Amb. Borrell stressed the continued presence of the U.S.-led International Coalition to fight terrorism, support stability, strengthen economic relations, and work to open the the Fishkhabur border crossing, the closer of which has negative economic and humanitarian repercussions on the people.
