Members of organ trafficking ring arrested in Iraq

BAGHDAD / ERBIL and MAYSAN Iraq — The Police Directorate of the Anti-Crime Department in Maysan Governorate in Iraq announced the arrest of a broker selling human organs.

“Due to accurate intelligence information, a gang specialized in organ trafficking, distributed in the governorates of Erbil, Baghdad, and Maysan, was arrested”, the Directorate stated. “It purchases human organs from citizens of limited income and performs kidney transplants in their own centers and hospitals.”

The Directorate indicated that, after obtaining the legal approvals, a specialized team was formed to follow up the movements of the broker who was finally arrested.

The Directorate also noted that the broker’s statements were written down and he admitted that, with his criminal group, he was sending several people to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to conduct kidney sales in exchange for large sums of money.
