LEBANON: Universal Syriac Union Party visits Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim in Diocese of Zahle

ZAHLE, Lebanon — A delegation from the Universal Syriac Union Party USUP headed by Secretary-General Michel Mallo visited the Diocese of Zahle and was received by the Archbishop of Ferzol, Zahle, and Bekaa for Melkite Greek Catholics, Archbishop Ibrahim Ibrahim.

Mallo presented a historical overview of the emergence of the USUP, its sacrifices and activities in Lebanon, and the role it currently plays in Lebanese political life. The affairs of the Sahel and the Bekaa were also discussed.

The archbishop stressed the need for all parties to cooperate to overcome the current political crisis gripping the country and to put the nation’s interest above private interests.

Archbishop Ibrahim called on the USUP to maintain depth in basic issues, stressing the need to preserve the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Lebanon and their positions in the state, not to give in to despair and frustration, and to hold on to hope for a better tomorrow and a better homeland for all.
