Institutions of North and East Syria praise sacrifices of local security forces, denounce international disregard for ISIS threat

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — After the recent Islamic State (ISIS) attack against Sina’a Prison in Hasakah, North and East Syria, and the subsequent days of intense urban fighting, several institutions issued statements praising the great sacrifices and heroism of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces (ISF) in confronting the attacks. Other statements denounced the silence and disregard of the international community for the threat presented by ISIS and the failure of the international community to address the issue of ISIS detainees being held in North and East Syria.

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces announced that the SDF regained control over the entirety of the prison complex on Wednesday, with 550 ISIS members surrendering. The Syrian Democratic Forces and the Internal Security Forces continue a campaign to comb Gweran neighborhood in pursuit of terrorist cells. During clashes with those cells, eight dangerous mercenaries were killed while one SDF fighter was martyred.

The Tel Abyad Military Council issued a statement on the recent military escalation in the Tal Abyad governorate and the events in Hasaka, condemning the international silence regarding violations and crimes committed by Turkey against civilians, as well as Russia’s failure to assume its responsibilities as a guarantor of the ceasefire.

The statement also called on the United Nations Security Council and all human rights organizations to take a firm and serious stand regarding Turkish violations against the population in the occupied areas.

The Office of Religions and Beliefs Affairs in Gozarto (Jazira) Region and the Democratic Islam Conference also issued statements denouncing the ISIS attack in Hasakah, “in ignorance of all human and moral values and divine religions,” and the resulting displacement and displacement of the people.

They also condemned the international silence regarding the conspiracies against the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) and voiced appreciation for the resistance shown by the Syrian Democratic Forces in terms of heroism and sacrifices in difficult circumstances.

The Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn) Displaced Persons Committee also praised the resistance of the military and security forces in order to protect the people, which resulted in the failure of the plan to control and displace the residents of the city of Hasakah.

It also called on all the displaced people in the camps to stand up to the Turkish occupation, provide a helping hand to the security forces, and to reveal the hiding places of the fleeing terrorists. The international community and global organizations must work seriously to eradicate ISIS, said the statement, and put pressure on Turkey to withdraw from all Syrian lands and facilitate the safe return of the displaced.

In the first official position of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq regarding the events in Hasaka, Jabbar Yawar, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga, said that the presence of thousands of detained terrorists in North and East Syria without trial is a great danger, especially since the countries to which these terrorists belong refuse to receive them, so that they remain like a time bomb in the region.

Yawar considered that the terrorists’ presence in Syria and Iraq turns their detention centers into schools of thought for terrorism, calling on the international community to develop radical solutions to the problem of prisons and camps, and to develop a plan to combat the organization’s intellectual terrorism.
