Turkish Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül resigns. AKP MP Bekir Bozdağ appointed
ANKARA – Abdulhamit Gül, the Turkish Minister of Justice, has resigned today from his post he announced on Twitter. Bekir Bozdağ, the current Chairman of the Constitutional Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and MP for Yozgat, was appointed instead by the President’s decision. Both Gül and Bozdağ are members of the ruling Justice and Development Party, AKP.
Gül made the following statement on his Twitter account: “With the approval of our President, I have resigned from the Ministry of Justice, a position I have served since July 19, 2017. I would like to express my gratitude to him for accepting my resignation, and wish success to our new Minister of Justice, Mr. Bekir Bozdağ.”
Neither Abdulhamit Gül nor the Turkish Presidency gave a reason for Gül’s resignation.
