CALIFORNIA: Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Ephrem II consecrates Mor Jacob of Sarugh Church

CALIFORNIA, U.S. — On Saturday, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East Mor Ignatius Ephrem II consecrated the Mor Jacob of Sarugh Church in California, U.S.

His Holiness was assisted by Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Western USA Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar in Sweden Dioscoros Benjamin Atas, Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern U.S. Dionysius Jean Kawak, Archbishop of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs Timotheos Matta al-Khoury, Archbishop of the Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Maurice Amsih, and Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director Joseph Bali.

Greek-Melkite (Syriac-Melkite) Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Alexandria, and Jerusalem Mor Joseph Absi, and Syriac Catholic Bishop of Eparchy of the Lady of Deliverance in the U.S. Barnabas Youssef Habash were also present at the consecration.

During his sermon, Patriarch Mor Ephrem II touched on the importance of cooperation between the clergy and the faithful who together make up the body of Christ, adding that the harmonious work between them leads to positive developments and prosperity. He congratulated the parishioners of the parish of Mor Jacob of Sarugh on the consecration, and hoped that the church will be and remain a place that Syriacs seek to quench their spiritual thirst.
