Suroyo FM, first Syriac radio station in the Gozarto Region celebrates second anniversary

ZALIN (QAMISHLI), North and East Syria — Suroyo FM, the first Syriac radio station in the Gozarto (Jazira) Region, celebrates its second anniversary today. The station was founded on February 2, 2020, and is based in the city of Zalin. Suroyo FM broadcasts cultural, musical, and political programs 24 hours a day.

Suroyo FM official Milad Gorgis commented to our news desk that since its foundation, the station has sought to represent and serve the Syriac people in highlighting their identity and culture among the other peoples in Syria.

On the occasion of the anniversary, Suroyo FM station manager Maria Hanna stated that in February 2020, Suroyo FM was launched to broadcast radio programs in the languages ​​of the region, in particular of course in Syriac. Since its foundation, Suroyo FM has followed the path of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) in conveying the voice of the Syriac people to the world. Hanna thanked all the staff of Suroyo FM staff, for their efforts day in and day out and the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people for their support of the radio station. 

Manager Jacob Mirza of the affiliate satellite channel Suroyo TV congratulated Suroyo FM during a live anniversary broadcast. He compared the foundation of Suroyo FM with the foundation of Suroyo TV 17 years ago. Both the satellite channel and the radio station are the expression of the free national will of our Syriac people, Jacob Mirza said. They are part of our national struggle and the result of the zeal of all MUB-cadres, Syriac patriots, and all sympathizers and supporters of the freedom fight of the Syriac people.
