IRAQ: Demands to allocate postgraduate seats for the Syriac language specialization

BAGHDAD, Iraq – On Sunday, Director-General of the General directorate of Syriac Study in Iraq Imad Salem Jajo visited the Director-General of Cultural Relations Directorate, Alaa Abed Odeh, in the Ministry of Education in Baghdad.

During the meeting, a discussion took place about allocating a number of postgraduate seats for the specialization in the Syriac language and other specializations for the staff of the Syriac Study Department in Nineveh.

Earlier, Jajo visited the Human Resources Department in Nineveh Governorate, and asked the Department Director Faris Hussein to allocate postgraduate seats for the Syriac language specialization.

It is expected that coordination will take place between the General Directorate of Syriac Study and the General Directorate of Educational Planning in the Ministry of Education, regarding the allocation of postgraduate seats for the Syriac language specialization.

In Iraq, Arabic and Kurdish are the two official languages. The Syriac language is a recognized language and is taught at schools in areas with a larger Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian presence.
