MTV highlights history of the Syriac Maronites in Lebanon. Universal Syriac Union Party President Mrad praises their role in the East
Like Saint Maroun, the Maronites chose the mountains of Lebanon as their home and the place to preserve their freedom and faith.
BEIRUT – On the occasion of Saint Maron’s Day, the Lebanese MTV television published a report talking about Saint Maron and the history of the Syriac Maronites. Saint Maron was a Syriac hermit who chose to live on the top of a mountain. Like him, the Maronites chose the mountains of Lebanon as their home and the place to preserve their freedom and faith.
The report indicated that the Maronites originated in the monastery and were influenced by the monastic nature culture, preserving their Syriac traditions.
The Maronites also established the first modern state in the East, characterized by freedom and equality, and until today they are the most staunch defenders of these traditions.
On this occasion, the President of the Universal Syriac Union Party in Lebanon, Ibrahim Mrad, published on his personal Facebook a pamphlet about the greatness of the Syriac Maronites and their role in the East, written by the late philosopher Charles Malik, in which he said:
“The Maronites have an ancient Syriac Aramean heritage, which links them historically, culturally and religiously with the remains of the great Aramean civilization in this East, including Assyrians, Syriacs, Chaldeans, Nestorians, Jacobites and others. It is one of the most important civilizations of the East.”
“The Syriac-Aramean civilization is a great and ancient civilization, known, excavated, respected, studied and taught by Russian, German, French, British and American universities.”
