Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Raï looks forward to holding parliamentary elections on time

BETH KERKE, Lebanon – Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Beshara al-Raï confirmed that he is looking forward to holding the Lebanese legislative and presidential elections on their scheduled dates, and to declaring the truth about the Beirut port bombing.

While presiding over Saint Maron’s feast mass on Wednesday, in the presence of Lebanese President Michel Aoun, the Syriac Maronite Patriarch said: “We look forward to five priorities, which are holding the elections on time, declaring the truth about the Beirut port bombing, accelerating the reform process and agreeing with the International Monetary Fund, completing the implementation of the Taif Agreement, and adopting the system of positive neutrality in our foreign relations.”

He added: “The people are looking forward to holding parliamentary and presidential elections to express their national desire, so do not disappoint their hopes.”

He pointed out that “we wanted Lebanon to be a message of respectful coexistence within the Arab regions, and we wanted it to be a meeting place for civilizations, but the weakness of national immunity distorted Lebanon’s message and entered us into the conflict of the regional powers, and made Lebanon a missile platform and an enemy to its brothers.”

On the other hand, and on the occasion of Saint Maron’s Day, Bishop Joseph Moawad, Patron of the Maronite Diocese of Zahle, held a festive mass at Saint Maron Cathedral in Kassara.

The mass was held in the presence of the Bishops of Zahle and the Bekaa, priests, monks and nuns, in addition to ministers, representatives and general public.
