US General Michael Corella warns of the danger of Islamic State. New study classifies al-Hol and Roj camps among the most dangerous camps in the world
General Michael Corella, US President Joe Biden’s nominee to command US military operations in the Middle East as the new commander of CENTCOM, warned of the danger of the recent ISIS attacks on Hasakah prison and its consequences, indicating that the Middle East is still home to the most dangerous terrorist organizations. A study conducted by the European Center for Counterterrorism and Intelligence Studies indicated that the al-Hol and Roj camps in North and East Syria are among the most dangerous and worst camps in the world.
Corella said during sessions in the US Senate that the Middle East and Afghanistan are a source of danger to the United States of America and its allies around the world.
Michael Corella also spoke about the danger of ISIS attacks on Hasakah prison, noting the need to be alert and prepare to confront the danger of the organization, especially in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Corella pointed out that the Middle East is still home to nine of the world’s ten largest violent terrorist organizations, including al-Qaeda and ISIS, both of which are in the process of regrouping and trying to start anew.
He further explained that Iranian missile and drone attacks lead to destabilization in the region and endanger US forces.
On the other hand, a study conducted by the European Center for Counterterrorism and Intelligence Studies explained that the al-Hol and Roj camps in northeastern Syria, and the Iraqi camps as well, are among the most dangerous, chaotic and miserable camps around the world.
The study showed that these camps contain the wives and children of ISIS fighters, and violence and extremism are among the most important pillars practiced by extremist organizations towards the families of their foreign fighters.
The study indicated that foreign fighters and their families remain in al-Hol and Roj camp and that European countries did not take them back. It may pose a threat to regional and European international security, lying in the exploitation of these fighters by some extremist organizations in carrying out terrorist operations.
