Syriac churches and Iraqi officials send condolences on the death of Patriarch Mar Addai II Giwargis.
BAGHDAD, ERBIL, Iraq – On the passing on to eternal life of Catholicos-Patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East Mar Addai II Giwargis, several Syriac churches including the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Chaldean Church, the Assyrian Church of the East and the Council of Heads of Christian Communities in Iraq sent condolence telegrams.
They prayed to the Lord to have mercy on Mar Addai in the kingdom of heaven, and grant patience to the Patriarch’s family, friends and believers of the Ancient Church of the East.
The General Directorate of Syriac Study in Iraq, Iraqi President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustapha al-Kadhimi, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani and the KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also sent condolence telegrams to the Ancient Church of the East and the entire Christian world.
On February 11, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Ancient Church of the East Mar Addai II Giwargis passed away at the age of 74, in Arizona, U.S., due to illness.
