Co-Chair of Syriac Union Party Barsoum stresses rights of Syrians in As-Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria – In comments made to SyriacPress, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsom discussed the latest political developments in Syria.
“So far, there is no seriousness in dealing with a political solution in Syria, whether by the Syrian regime or international parties,” said Barsoum. “This is what causes new problems and interferences, such as the recent attack by the Islamic State [ISIS] on Al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah.”
Barsoum indicated that ISIS exploited the absence of a political solution, which is fighting terrorism.
“We stress the need for partnership between the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF] and the U.S.-led International Coalition, which has brought positive results,” Barsoum continued.
“Absence of a political solution also affects the Syrian interior, such as the demands in As-Suwayda Governorate,” said Barsoum. “The Syrian regime seeks to resolve the Suwayda issue through military settlements, which represent the regime only, not the demand of the Syrian people.”
Such demands in regime-held areas indicate that the Syrian people do not accept the regime’s policy, and that the regime must make concessions for a solution and new elections, according to Barsoum.
He believes that such demands can move to other areas under the control of the regime. “We support these demands and the participation of all the Syrians in developing a Syrian solution,” he concluded.
