Member of Syriac Union Party Nora Hanna stresses importance of International Mother Language Day
ZALIN, Syria — In comments to the SyriacPress newsdesk, member of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Nora Hanna spoke about the International Mother Language Day.
“This day is very important, because anyone who does not know his or her language does not know why he or she lives,” said Hanna. “On this basis, we have been struggling to prove the existence of our language and history.”
“It is our duty to respect and preserve our Syriac language, work to develop it, and prove the existence of our Syriac language for other peoples and the whole world,” she elaborated.
Hanna congratulated all components, the term often used for ethnic, cultural, and religious groups in North and East Syria, and called on preservation of languages threatened with extinction, including the Syriac language.
