Official of the Syriac Cultural Association in Syria affirms the Syriac people’s steadfastness in their homeland

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA – In a statement to Suroyo FM, official of the Syriac Cultural Association in Syria Ibrahim Adamo recalled the 2015 Khabur resistance and the heroism shown by our Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people when the Islamic State (ISIS) launched a violent attack on the safe villages of the Syriac people in Khabur Valley and wreaked havoc in the region.

Adamo stated that the resistance shown by the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulḥoyo Suryoyo, MFS) and the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) was great, indicating that they confronted ISIS violent attack bravely and valiantly.

“Our message to the whole world is that the Syriac people are steadfast and will remain in their homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) to liberate it from terrorism,” he concluded.

The Khabur River valley is traditionally a pre-dominantly Suraye area who mainly settled there in 1930s after the Simele massacre of 1933. In 2015, terrorist organization Islamic State advanced on the villages of the Khabur displacing thousands and kidnapping nearly 250 Suraye.

Attempts to make the area of the Khabur Region a separate administrative canton for the Suraye people have so far been unsuccessful.
