Beth Nahrain Women’s Union issues statement on 21st anniversary of founding

BETH NAHRIN — On the 21st anniversary of its founding, the Beth Nahrain Women’s Union (HNB) issued the below statement:

“Throughout history, the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people have suffered murders and persecution to annihilate their culture, language, identity and faith. The effects of the 1915 Sayfo Genocide made the Syriac people live in fear and weakness until today.

In the diaspora, the assimilation war on the Syriac people began to move them away from their homeland and history. Syriac women were the most affected group due to the genocide and assimilation.

The establishment of the Beth Nahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) led by President Michael Naim Hadodo has become a hope for the Syriac people in general and Syriac women in particular. With the philosophy of the MUB President, the HNB was established.

The HNB has established a union based on nationalism and gender, and works for the freedom and equality of Syriac women, in the face of any reactionary thought or violence. The HNB seeks to prevent Syriac women from remaining governed by the regimes under which they live, but rather to be linked to the values of their homeland and people.

The HNB is the first women institution which works for women’s rights and for the creation of free will among Syriac women in order to establish a democratic life.

The HNB formed several women’s institutions in Europe, Syria, Tur Abdin and Iraq. It also prepared women to assume different ranks and diplomatic positions, in politics, media, economics and other fields. When the Bethnahrain Women Protection Forces (Ḥaylawotho d’Sutoro d’Neshe d’Beth Nahrin, HSNB) were established, Syriac women took up arms and fought in the battles fronts.”
