Bethnahrin Women’s Union issues statement on International Women’s Day
BETH NAHRIN — With the advent of International Women’s Day, the Women’s Council in the Bethnahrin Women Union (HNB) issued the following statement:
“The 8th March reminds all women that they have a voice and a will, and that they are part of life. It has become a day for women to revolt against the regimes that practice all forms of pressure, such as injustice and inequality.
The 8th March has become a symbol of women’s resistance around the world. The HNB was established due to the philosophy and approach of president of the Beth Nahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), Michael Naim Hadodo. The HNB has become a motive and a means to empower the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women to stand against all forms of marginalization, and to have a military, political and societal role.
We, as Syriac women, have taken it upon ourselves to achieve women’s freedom, and we will remain on the path of struggle to end the siege, colonialism, and mental violence practiced on the entity, body and efforts of women.
We condemn the wars that are taking place solely for international parties’ interests, which create calamities, chaos and result in crimes against humanity.
We offer peace and respect to the Syriac women. We congratulate them and all the women of the world on International Women’s Day.”
The Bethnahrin Women Union was founded with the objective to solve cultural and social problems, to understand and to overcome conflicts and to transform the society towards an equal and democratic mentality.
