MP Tuma Çelik complains to Turkish Minister of Agriculture about unsolicited felling of trees in Syriac village of Derqube

ANKAARA / TUR ABDIN – Syriac Member of Turkish Parliament Tuma Çelik has raised the unsolicited tree felling in the woods near the Syriac village of Derqube with the Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. MP Çelik asked about the why and who of the decision to cut down the trees without permission of the villagers.

Çelik sent a statement with questions regarding the unwanted situation to the parliamentary Agriculture Committee complaining that the tree felling has went on for some time near the village of Derqube in Tur Abdin but that it is unknown who or which agency or department took the decision. Tuma Çelik continues with the question as to why there was seen the need to cut the trees and which and how many companies were involved in the tree felling.  

After complaints from villagers and MP Tuma Çelik the cutting down of trees stopped, for now. Derqube, Beth Kustan, lies in the Tur Izlo region which is completely Syriac.
