Syriac folk troupe Yerthotha participates in cultural festival in Zalin, North and East Syria

ZALIN, Syria — Amid the various cultural activities of civil society organizations in the region, the Mari Development Organization held a cultural festival entitled “Our Heritage is Our Identity” in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, on Monday.

The Syriac Cultural Association participated in the festival, which included performances and displays of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean), Kurdish, and Arab heritage.

In a statement to SyriacPress, official of the Syriac Cultural Association Hanna Soumi indicated that the ethnic groups came together to represent the cultural diversity of North and East Syria.

Member of the Syriac folk troupe Yerthotha Meltha Yousef spoke about the folk dances that were performed at the festival.

“We presented two folkloric shows entitled Brothers of Peoples and Syriac Academic Art, to traditional Syriac songs,” said Yousef.

According to the organization coordinator, Nour Ajem, the festival included an exhibition of plastic art, photographs, handicrafts, and antiquities of civilizations.

Ajem added that folk bands and troupes from all regions of North and East Syria participated in the festival.

The participating bands and artists were honored with commemorative shields at the conclusion of the festival.
