General Commander of Syrian Democratic Forces Abdi meets with high-ranking US delegation
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of North and East Syria published the content of a meeting between SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi and a U.S. diplomatic delegation.
According to the SDF Media Center, the delegation included Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Ethan Goldrich, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Jennifer Gavito, Director of Iraq and Syria Affairs at the National Security Council Zahra Bell and Representative of the U.S. State Department in North and East Syria Matthew Purl.
The U.S. delegation stressed the continued partnership between North and East Syria and the U.S.-led International Coalition. The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments related to the campaign of combating the Islamic State (ISIS), especially after the events in Al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah.
The U.S. delegation commended the SDF great efforts and sacrifices to regain control of the prison and prevent ISIS from carrying out its terrorist plan.
The meeting stressed that ISIS still poses a threat to the entire region, and discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation at all levels.
The need to support developing the regions of North and East Syria to ensure security and stability was also touched on.
