Beth Nahrain National Council extends condolences following death of comrade Maryam Quryakos Soumi at 85

BETH NAHRIN — The Presidency of the Beth Nahrain National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) sent a condolence letter to the families of Hanna and Quryakos on the death of Maryam Quryakos Soumi.

The MUB letter stated that the struggle comrade Maryam Soumi, mother of comrades Izla Hanna, member of the MUB Administrative Body, and Mousa Hanna, MUB member, passed away on 17 March at the age of 85 due to illness.

Comrade Maryam was the mother of five sons and three daughters. Her eldest daughter, Theodora Hanna, passed away years ago.

Soumi was known since her youth for her stance against authoritarianism and became a role model for liberationist and feminist struggles.

She embraced the values ​​of democracy and nationalism, which she transmitted to her children, family, and surrounding community. Soumi was a mother to all, read the MUB letter.

Despite all pressures, she worked to spread and develop the MUB struggle. She took great risk to show the truth and uphold the heritage and rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people. The majority of her children and grandchildren have joined the path of struggle.

The MUB strives to ensure the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and abroad.

The MUB extended deepest condolences to her family and asked God to have mercy on her.
