SWEDEN: Syriac Orthodox bishop Benjamin Ataş ordains subdeacons and readers
SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden — On Thursday, after the end of the Divine Liturgy at the Syriac Orthodox Church of Mor Ephrem de Syriac in Södertälje, Sweden, several subdeacons and readers were ordained to a higher rank. The ordination took place under the patronage of Syriac Orthodox Bishop of Antioch in Sweden Dioscorus Benjamin Ataş.
Bishop Benjamin Ataş ordained 12 people to the rank of readers and 12 readers to the higher rank of subdeacon. He was assisted by the chorepiskopus of the Mor Ephrem Church, Fr Yawsef Ataş, and by monk Ephrem Lahdo, the assistant to Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Julius Abd al-Ahad Gallo Shabo of the Archbishopric of Scandinavia.
After the ordination ceremony, Bishop Ataş thanked and praised God, who bestowed His divine blessing on the Syriac Orthodox Church and on him to hold the divine liturgy. The bishop also thanked the parents of the ordained readers and subdeacons for encouraging their children to love and serve the Church.
