Sovereign Front for Lebanon stands against Aoun’s statements in Vatican
BEIRUT — The Sovereign Front for Lebanon held an extraordinary meeting in which the Secretary of Internal Affairs of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Joseph Hajjar participated.
The meeting aimed at explaining the letter that was addressed to Pope Francis and the Front delegation visit to the Papal Ambassador.
At the end of the meeting, the Front issued a statement which read:
“Lebanese President Michel Aoun’s visit to the Vatican has caused much confusion. His stances are far from those of the Lebanese people, who aspire to see Lebanon’s President defend the Lebanese constitution and limit weapons only to state actors. The Office of the President should not be used as an international platform to defend Hezbollah, which threatens Lebanon’s existence.
Before Aoun visited the Vatican, the Front delegation visited the Papal Embassy in Harissa and met Ambassador Joseph Spiteri for an hour and a half. The delegation presented the Front’s perspective on the negative role Hezbollah plays in Lebanon and handed Spiteri a detailed letter for Pope Francis.
The stances and leaks that occurred during President Aoun’s visit to the Vatican greatly shocked the Lebanese public opinion and citizens which struggle to secure basic life needs.”
In another criticism of the policies of the current government, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mor Bechara Boutros al-Raï stated during his trip to Egypt that Lebanon had lost its basic identity and was isolated from the world, stressing that the solution for Lebanon is neutrality.
“The reasons for isolation are known,” said Patriarch al-Raï, referring to Iranian Hezbollah control. “The solution for Lebanon is neutrality, then prosperity and growth will return,” the Patriarch concluded.
